Everyone that sees says the same thing, "that is big!"I think this was a nice deal with two bowls, two types of media and being an 18 pounder at that.It is loud. Having never had one before I can not say if it loud compared to others, but running in the closed garage you hear it in the house and yard. I knocked one star off for that. Not really sure if that is fair or not having never compared, but as the customer I would love this to be quieter as it does run a long time.I like that you can use wet or dry media. I like that I have two grades and bowls so I can clean then polish. I like that I can store the media in each bowl.I bought this to refurbish things like old telescope parts, antiques and other finds. I use it for parts, not rocks.

I needed to polish small chrome tools and parts. I wasn't able to find any information that came out and said this one would work well with chrome. My guess is for liability issues/no company would want to take a risk since chrome can be easily damaged. I used the corn cob based media that arrived with the machine. Unit holds 18 pounds of combined parts and media. I loaded mine 10 pounds at a time total. I used the media dry with no polish. After six hours chrome parts turned out fantastic. I've also read this style of tumbler can be loud. This one is not. My garage is attached to my house and with this unit running in the garage/you can't hear it in the house (mud room door and hallway door separate garage from house). Enough media comes with this machine to do several loads (comes with two bags of corn cob and two bags green pyramid coarse media) I've run five loads so far with one of the two bags of corn cob media and it still looks and performs as new. For a test/I did use the green pyramid media on one load of chrome tools (scrap tools). As expected/the green is really aggressive and after just an hour, the green media scuffed the chrome finish to a dull rough surface. The green is too aggressive for chrome/stick with the corn cob. Overall fantastic machine/already paid for itself after just a week. A great time saver.

The most resent use was to clean and polish brass nuts for an old engine I am restoring. I let it run none stop for 78 hours. After 78 hours of tumbling the parts were not much better that if I had run them in My wife's dishwasher. I have tried the green media the brown and the ceramic but as far as I am concerned it was a complete waste of money and I have nearly $500.00 in it. The one I got don't have an off and on switch. You have to plug it in to run it. The only good thing that I can point out is that it has had no problems but I wish it would do the job like the adds says it will.If I were you I would get a bead blaster.
